FIR Sauna – Far Infra Red Ray Sauna

What it is, how it works, and what the medical researchers say.

What is it?
Far Infra Red rays are an integral part of the sun’s spectrum, and though invisible it has been known for many years as the ’Light of Life’ in Korea, Japan and China, where the advantages of the FIR rays in therapeutic use first became common.

Since then Thermal Infra Red heating has been used extensively in Europe and USA and the health benefits assessed and reported on. You may at times have used an infrared lamp as an aid to recovery from back pain or sprains and muscle lesions.

The sun emits FIR energy that is absorbed by human cells, causing a physical phenomenon called ‘resonance’. FIR rays vibrating at a frequency to that of the human body are thus able to activate cells, and reactivate as well as strengthen resulting in a better blood circulation and an overall improved micro blood circulatory systems.

In Japan FIR heaters were used by the medical practitioners exclusively until 1979 when they were released for public use.

The energy radiated by infrared [IR] rays heats objects directly, i.e. the intervening air is not heated, a process known as ‘conversion’. The IR segment of the Sun’s electromagnetic spectrum is divided into 3 parts: the near infrared wavelength: 0.076 to 1.5 microns, medium infrared wavelength: 1.5 to 5.6 microns, and the FAR INFRA RED wavelength: 5.6 to 1000 microns.

Our sun’s energy output comes mostly from the IR segment of the spectrum, but it is the wavelength of between 6 and 14 microns that is most beneficial to humans and indeed all living things on earth must have.

How it works:
The FIR rays’ energy when tuned to the human body is absorbed by the cells invigorating the cellular activities and stimulating the blood vessel allowing increased oxygen to reach the joints and extremities and carrying greater amounts of nutrients to cells and skin.

The heat energy penetrate the body tissues to a depth of 4 to 5cm quickly and efficiently, and instead of using energy to convert air to higher temperatures, as for example in a steam sauna, the energy is converted directly to heat the body. This is one of the reasons for the unprecedented benefits reported for the FIR Sauna system, unavailable from the use of a conventional steam sauna.

The volume of perspiration induced by FAR Sauna may be up to 2-3 times the volume obtained from a conventional sauna, yet the FIR sauna operates a significantly cooler air temperature 55-65oC, against the hot air sauna’s 80-110oC, so FIR saunas are safer for people with cardiovascular concerns.

Dr. Tsu-Tsair Oliver Chi observed in his explanation on the mechanism of actions of IR devices tuned to the human body, that the internal production of infrared energy that normally occurs within our tissues is associated with a variety of healing responses and could provide a boost to the fullest healing response possible in a tissue under repair. The phenomenon [also referred to above] is known as ‘resonant absorption’.

What are the benefits?
FIR sauna therapy speeds up the metabolic process of vital organs and endocrine glands resulting in substantial caloric loss, i.e. weight loss, during a sauna session.

The increased blood flow speeds healing of sprains and strains and relieves pain. It also helps aching muscles to recover faster because the metabolic and toxic waste products are purged faster from your system and through the skin when perspiring. In fact, the skin is often referred to as the ‘3rd kidney’ because it is believed responsible for eliminating up to 30% of the body waste.

With the extra nutrient reaching the skin the sought-after ‘glow’ is obtained whilst promoting healthy tone and texture, helping the body to ward off invading organisms.

It is well known that a fever is the body’s response to infection because of increased activity of the immune system fighting the invading germs. An increase in the function of the immune system incurs naturally whilst using FIR sauna and this treatment for early stages of colds and flu’ like virus are known to be successful in stopping the disease before becoming full-blown.

It is clear then, that increased wellbeing and better health can be enjoyed by regular use of the FIR sauna, and below you’ll find information from a number of eminent people and researchers as well as results of international studies carried out on the use and benefits recorded from the use of IR treatment.

In addition to the health benefits obtainable from the use of a FIR Sauna there are some down-to-earth benefits too. A FIR sauna is easy and comfortable to use compared to the Steam sauna and does not require the extensive warm up period of the latter. It leads to a more regular use of the FIR sauna and the consequent benefits that can be conferred. Hence the running cost is much less, around 5 cents for power compared to a steam sauna costing up to 10 times more to operate.
It is advisable to drink a glass of water before and after use of sauna.
For that low cost you can enjoy the unique and unprecedented benefits of the FIR Sauna.

The use of FIR can provide therapeutic effects.

Are all FIR saunas the same?
All FAR INFRARED RAY SAUNAS are not created equal!!
The very heart of the FIR Sauna is its Heating Elements. The majority of FIR saunas are fitted with Ceramic Heating Elements also known as ‘Ceramic Semi Conductors’ depending on the manufacturer.

Ceramic type / ceramic semi conductor elements can use up to 70% of the available oxygen inside the cabin or enclosure and breathing the oxygen-depleted air may lead to considerable discomfort for the users. Promoters of personal type sauna using the ceramic semi conductor elements would like you to believe that because the user’s head is outside the cabin you do not breathe the oxygen depleted air, but researchers have stated that the lack of oxygen taken through the skin is still felt significantly, especially as heat causes skin pores to open.

Fortunately new technology deals with this problem. There are patented, ultra-thin, super-conductive FIR emitting heating elements used in the design of space age technology FIR saunas. These elements use just 5% of available oxygen inside the cabin and the user can relax and enjoy the many benefit attached to the use of a FIR Sauna. The new portable personal FIR sauna ED2000 MK2 uses patented, ultra-thin, super-conductive FIR emitting heating elements and is designed to keep the user’s head outside the enclosure, thus the user is much more comfortable.

Operating Instructions
a) Plug in the power socket. No other appliances should be connected into the same socket.
b) Press the ‘Power’ button once will activate and show ‘00’ in the LED display window.
c) Press ‘Timer’ button to preset for10, 20 or 30 minutes. This will turn the heater & FIR.
d) Press ‘Foot’ button will turn the heater & FIR for the foot pad. After 10 minutes should the foot pad be too hot, you can move your feet to the sides or press the ‘Foot’ button again to turn it off.
e) If using to warm your body (for competitive athletes) closing the zipper all the way up is optional. Closing the zipper all the way up to your neck is for full sauna effect thus heats up your body faster.

Usage Precautions
1) Leave the sauna immediately if you feel uncomfortable, dizzy or sleepy.
2) Staying too long in sauna can cause overheating of human body and in extreme case even death.
3) There are risks for very young children, the elderly, and those taking alcohol, drugs or medicine.
4) Check with your health practitioner before using sauna if pregnant or under medical care.

Disclaimer/Contraindications
As may be noted the segment of the infrared spectrum emitted by the Infrared Thermal System is reputed to offer an astounding range of possible therapeutic benefits and effects in research conducted around the world. The data presented is offered for reference purposes only and to stimulate further observation. Infrared Thermal Systems creating a cure for, or treating of, any disease is neither implied nor should be inferred.

If you are suffering from a disease be certain to consult with a primary-care physician concerning it.
If you are using any prescription drugs check with your physician or pharmacist for any possible change in the drug’s effect likely to result from any interaction with infrared energy.

If you have a recent (acute) joint injury, it should not be heated for the first 48 hours after an injury or until the hot and swollen symptoms subside. If you have a joint or joints that are chronically hot and swollen, these joints may respond poorly to vigorous heating of any kind. Vigorous heating is strictly contraindicated in cases of enclosed infections, be they dental, in joints, or in any other tissues.
